Felicia Roldan’s Testimony

Hello my name is Felicia Roldan and I am a Resident at Fort Green Houses.

I live in Fort Green for over 26 years with three generation of Family. I love Downtown Brooklyn because I can be independent in getting around to all parts of NYC. 

Following the Newspapers and T.V., I am aware that thousands of condo and luxury development is moving into my community; BUT, no promise of including the local residents.

Albee Square is one example of exclude the community. Who benefits from condo and luxury development? NOT the local people who live, work, and shop in Downtown Brooklyn. Development must blend in with the local community.

If the city is spending millions of our tax dollars on Albee Development than it should go into the affordable housing. We have a right to housing as basic need. It should be 50% luxury and 50% affordable housing. The city need to listen to the people who known their communities need.

It is a shame that the city continue to hide behind their door from our community; when really, the city is supposed to serve the needs of working class people and families. I, like many people in my community, demand to be included in the future of Brooklyn.  HPD must listen to the people and families that kick out of their home for wealthy people.
