| Advocates are tyring to
turn up the heat on their campaign to get LMDC
to spend more on affordable housing. > J. Tozzi |

| FYI:
Housing advocates stepped up the debate over
allocation of federal redevelopment funds today
when a group of about 10 people protested the lack
of mixed-income housing being built in lower
Manhattan during the monthly board meeting of the
Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. Members
of the Liberty
Bond Housing Coalition, an alliance of
nonprofits pushing to use federal money for
affordable housing, silently protested the meeting
with signs saying, "Support mixed income housing
downtown." Of the $1.6 billion divided between the
mayor and the governor to develop housing below
Houston Street, $340 million has already been
cleared to finance luxury apartments. The group
complained that there are not yet any plans for
affordable housing development. [6/12/03] |
